Prepper Girl U.K

                                      PERIODS

The monthlies, crimson tide, the curse, whatever you want to call this addressing it in a survival situation is important, not only from the sense of covering the obvious but you do not want the thought in mind 'it is about due what do' in the middle of a scenario. So periods, that is what it's called, woman bleed and we have to deal with it, it's no secret, it's not dirty or embarrassing and it is not a subject to shy away from especially in a disaster situation. Dealing with periods during a survival situation need not be as daunting as it sounds but in certain scenarios the impracticality of carrying a stacks of pads or tampons needs addressing. Not all of us are as regular as the atomic clock at Greenwich and remember stress as in the case of disaster can cause irregular pattern or forgetfulness. Looking at a couple of ways that suit me which take up minimal space in a BOB and replace storage problems if you are a bug in prepper too.

My BOB, yes am a bug in but options i have, sanitary provisions including small soap etc take up very little space being held in the small blue bag (38)

                                   The reusable pad

These come in a variety of colours and material construction, a quick search within ebay will bring a source multitude and personally i rather buy from someone making a little money from home than a store, price is a few pounds each and are available in different sizes and suitability to your flow. These are fully washable. If you decide that these are for you and you are away from home or bugging out consider a wet bag, a small wash bag would do or just a poly bag to store when used before washing. I would advise, although not necessary, putting used pads into a salted water solution if immediate washing is not available, it prevents staining, a suitable plastic container if at home / bugging in but alternatively if bugging out use poly bags such as freezer bags, add a little salt into the bags you intend to use as you can utilise them to soak pads once water is added then knot your bag. This would be dependent on the scenario you find yourself in regards water and you have somewhere to place the bags until washing, staining is not i consider a concern of survival though. Washing powder or liquid can be stored in melt sealed drinking straws and kept with your pads so washing is immediately available upon water availability. Note reusable/washable breast pads are also available.

If you use poly bags such as freezer bags add a little salt into the bags you intend to use as you can utilise them to soak pads once water is added then knot your bag.

Use plastic straws to have a ready means of washing your pads. Cut your straws to desired length, heat seal one end with a lighter, fill with washing powder or liquid , use a syringe in case of liquid, then heat seal the other end.

                                      Menstural Cup

Various brands , be aware of sizing, can be rather daunting if you have never had one, i would recommend before you spend out on a decent one have a check on ebay, buy a cheap brand for a few pounds and if happy go for a decent one. These are reuseable lasting for years.
